Global Military Rankings revealed, where does Pakistan stand

Global Firepower has revealed its Military Strength Rankings for 2024, which has organised 145 countries in a list of ‘power’.

The Power Index prepared by GFP is an aggregate of 60 factors including number of troops, military equipment, financial stability, geographic location, and available resources.

The list is organised to have the lowest power index at the top of the list. The perfect score according to the GFP will be 0.

The list also tracks how the position of a country has changed compared to the previousl years’ ranking.

In the 2024 rankings, the top four spots have not seen any change. The top spot continues to be occupied by the United States with a Power index of 0.0699.

The second spot is occupied by Russia (0.0702), the third by China (0.0706) and fourth by India (0.1023).

The list shows that South Korea has displaced United Kingdom from the fifth spot, while Japan has also moved upward.

Pakistan has also been included in the top 10 most powerful countries and is currently at the ninth spot with an index of 0.1711. However, it has lost a spot compared to last year, which has now been taken up by Turkiye.

GFP has also ranked each country out of 145 in multiple categories that contribute to tis rankings. Pakistan’s scores in the categories are listed below.

The country has been ranked as the fifth most populous in the world and has been ranked seventh in both available manpower and active personnel. It has also been ranked inside the top-10 in total aircraft and total fighters in terms of airpower.

The country has also made the top ten list in terms of tanks, artillery and rockets. However, the country has a poor score in naval power and has only achieved a top-10 rank in number of frigates.

It has also posted low scores in natural resources, with the only two areas with top-20 ranks being coal and gas reserves.

However, with the economy struggling in the last few years, Pakistan has earned low ranks in the financials category.

Pakistan is placed at the 23rd spot in Purchasing Power Parity, 62nd in forex reserves, 47th in Defense budget and 70th in External debt.
