GB IG removed after reports of involvement in Lahore clashes

Gilgit Baltistan’s Inspector General of Police Muhammad Saeed was removed from his post with immediate effect on Wednesday by the federal government.

The government has posted Dar Ali Khattak as the new IG until further orders. While Saaed was a BS-21 officer, Khattak is still serving in Bs-20.

The development comes amid reports of the GB police’s involvement in clashes at Zaman Park as police tried to overcome PTI protestors to arrest the PTI chairman.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had claimed in a press conference on Wednesday that GB’s forces were being used by Imran Khan to defend himself. She had also accused the PTI chief of using his workers as ‘human shields’ instead of facing arrest.

PTI is still in government in GB by virtue of its assembly majority.

The Lahore High Court has ordered the operation around Imran Khan’s residence to be halted till 10am on Thursday and also ordered police and rangers to retreat.

The former IG has been told to report to the Establishment Division.
