Babar Azam likely to lose captaincy from multiple formats

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is under the hot water after a below-par home season last year and is likely to lose captaincy from multiple formats, sources revealed Monday.

A proposal has been tabled in this regard suggesting three separate captains to lead the team in the three formats.

Sources suggest that Babar is favourite to keep the T20I captaincy, whereas Shan Masood and Sarfaraz Ahmed are likely to replace the 28-year-old in ODIs and Test, respectively.

Shan’s elevation to the one-day captaincy is subject to his form. Moreover, sources revealed that Babar and some seniors were not happy with the decision of making the left-hander the vice-captain.

Babar was not consulted regarding Shan’s appointment, and it is believed that the decision was made after consulting future coach Mickey Arthur.

The South African has not officially taken over as coach, but he is constantly in touch with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials and continues to give advice.
