How do you address your husband? Pakistani Twitter has some ideas

A Twitter user came in the line of fire on the popular microblogging website after suggesting that the language used by wives for their husband wasn’t up to par.

“The audacity of Pakistani girls to call their husbands “Tum” i mean ? What’s wrong in calling ‘AP’?” user @noorsaleemmehar tweeted.

In Urdu, the words ‘tum’ and ‘app’ are second person pronouns just as English has ‘you’.

But ‘aap’ is more respectful and formal while ‘tum’ is more personal and conveys frankness.

She was soon flooded with responses and quote tweets, with each having their own take on this development.

Some were patient in their responses but most were dismissive of the Twitter user’s understanding of how ‘respect’ is conveyed between a husband and wife.

A few users provided an alternative perspective.

One user suggesed that the pronouns might deprive the relationship of its spark.

Others pointed out that it was an equal relationship.

Most, though, resorted to humour in response to her statements and here are some of our favourites.

Before we wrap it up, how do you address your significant other?
