More monsoon rain in Karachi, July records double Islamabad, Lahore

KARACHI: Many parts of Karachi were soaked on Tuesday morning as the fresh monsoon spell continued for the third day. Sindh’s metropolitan capital may receive up to 39mm rainfall today, the Met Office said in its weather update.

“Latest radar observations show more well-spread rain bands across almost the whole of Karachi city, means heavy downpour to continue further,” Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist at Pakistan Meteorological Department Karachi, said in a tweet on Monday.

This amount of rain is double what Lahore and Islamabad have seen over the same July period.

The Met Office has predicted rain in Karachi till Tuesday or Wednesday. At least four people died in rain-related incidents. Two bodies were brought to the Jinnah Hospital. Another two bodies were also brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, including a teenager and an unidentified man. All the victims died of electrocution.
