MUZAFFARABAD: At least six policemen were injured on Saturday following clashes with inmates in the central prison in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).The jail officials came under attack while carrying out snapchecks in the cells of inmates convicted in drug-related crimes. The inmates resisted the search party, starting various fires while attacking policemen.Despite the resistance, the prison administration continued the search and seized contraband, gas cylinders and mobile phones from inmates.Several inmates were also injured in the brawls that erupted.High-ranking officials including Muzaffarabad Division Commissioner Masood-ur-Rehman, DIG Tahir Mehmood Qureshi, Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Janjua, SSP Yasin Baig arrived at the prison following news of the clashes.The Muzaffarabad commissioner confirmed that the situation had been brought under control.Meanwhile, the IGP has ordered an inquiry to identify those involved in aiding and abetting prisoners in acquiring mobile phones and other contrabands inside the jail.
