No evidence of Dua Zehra being abducted: police

KARACHI: In yet another development in a case involving the alleged abduction of Dua Zehra, the police on Thursday submitted a fresh challan to a judicial magistrate in Karachi East.

The challan stated that in light of Dua’s statement, she went to Punjab on her own where she tied the knot. No evidence was found that Dua Zehra was kidnapped, it added.

Dua went missing from Karachi’s Faisal Colony a month ago and was later found married in Punjab.

A bone test states that Dua Zehra’s age is 16 to 17 years old.

The challan stated that the two arrested suspects, Ghulam Mustafa and Ashar, were found innocent and sought the court’s orders to release them.

The Sindh Child Act does not apply to the accused as they got married in Punjab.

Earlier this week, Dua in her first video interview with her husband, Zaheer Ahmad, had revealed that she had run away from her home to marry Zaheer after her parents refused the marriage proposal.

In April, the teenage girl, a resident of the Korangi Golden Town area, went missing after stepping out of the house to dispose of garbage, according to her father.

On June 5, Karachi police in a joint operation with Punjab police recovered Dua and her husban from a lawyer’s house in Bahawalnagar’s Tehsil Chishtian.

She was then produced before the Sindh High Court on June 6.

On June 8, the SHC allowed the teenage girl to decide whether she wanted to go, with her parents or husband.

The court then ruled that it was not a case of kidnapping.
