Metaverse: a technological blessing or curse?

If you are interested in the world of technology then you must know the word Metaverse. Some people are calling it the future of technology. Among these people is Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

He has also changed the name of Facebook to Meta.

But what exactly is the Metaverse?

Simply put, Metaverse is a virtual world, where you can play games, work and conduct meetings with the help of a headset and other appropriate gear. What we used to be able to only see on our computer scenes, we will virtually be able to interact with through the Internet.

The Metaverse is a shared virtual space that exists online. Every person can form a 3D avatar or form.

Online games such as Fortnite or Roblox can be called the earliest versions of the Metaverse, where you could select an avatar that then interacted with its surroundings and competed with other gamers.

All these things are nice and dandy but what exactly does one do in the world of the metaverse?

The answer is almost everything you do in real life. You can work in your own virtual workspace, buy land, hold parties, attend concerts and even get married through your digital avatar.

Nothing is perfect, not even the Metaverse, and where it is being called the future of the internet and human interaction, there are also some downsides.

Experts believe it will also usher in a new era of monitoring by various organisations as well as offer an innovative way to collect data from various sources that were previously unavailable.

So far there is no moderation for the virtual world either, forcing many to wonder how this parallel world will be policed, if at all.

Experts also say that the difference between the internet and the Metaverse is as stark as the difference between phones in the 1900s and smartphones today.
