Saudi Arabia launches smart machine to clean ‘Ghilaf-e-Ka’bah’’

MAKKAH: The administration of the two holy mosques in Saudi Arabia has introduced smart machines capable of working continuously to clean the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba.

The King Abdul Aziz Factory in the Umm al-Jood region of Makkah manufactures the ‘Ghilaf-e-Kaaba’. The new Ghilaf is draped during the Hajj.

The Ghilaf-e-Kaaba is 14 meters high. There is a wide belt on top of it. It is made of 670 kg of natural pure silk, 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver yarn.

According to the Saudi state news agency SPA, Abdul Hamid al-Maliki, secretary of the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Shroud of the Kaaba, said that special care has been taken to clean the shroud of the Ka’bah, as it is made from natural silk. Therefore, it is a great responsibility to maintain its beauty.

The administration of Harmain Sharifeen also cleans the Safa and Marwa hills on Thursdays, while this work is done every week to maintain purity.

In addition, Jabir Al-Wadani, in-charge of the cleaning facility in Masjid al Haram, said that cleaning and washing of Safa and Marwa is done with special equipment in order to clean and disinfect.
