Democracy assassinated by ‘foreign conspiracy’ through internal facilitators: Governor Punjab

Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema has said that democracy was assassinated by a ‘foreign conspiracy’ through internal facilitators.

Taking to Twitter, Cheema said that the supremacy of the parliament was destroyed by internal facilitators through the ‘foreign conspiracy’, and an attempt was made to repeat the same in Punjab.

“There is no room for doubt after the two declarations of the National Security Committee confirmed the external conspiracy,” Cheema said in another tweet, adding that the role of the judiciary, parliamentarians and political parties was very important in the crisis.

The Punjab governor said that the role of the judiciary, parliamentarians and political parties is before the nation.

The governor’s latest thread of tweets comes a couple of days after he wrote a letter to the army chief seeking his intervention to lead Punjab out of the legal and constitutional crises plaguing it for months. Cheema had also announced to send a reference against Lahore High Court’s Justice Jawad Hassan to the Supreme Judicial Council for an “illegal decision” of asking the National Assembly speaker to administer the oath to the then chief minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had again sent a summary of the removal of Cheema from his post to President Arif Alvi.

Sources said that the premier will also send names for the appointment of new governor to the President.

President Arif Alvi had earlier directed Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema to continue performing his duty as the governor Punjab.
