Court accepts Mohsin Baig’s bail plea in illegal weapon possession case

ISLAMABAD. The district and sessions court in Islamabad on Friday accepted the bail appeal of editor Mohsin Baig in the case pertaining to the possession of an illegal weapon.

Judicial magistrate Waqar Hussain Gondal heard the proceedings of the case.

Baig's lawyer informed the court that the Margalla Police Station had filed a case against his client for the possession of an illegal weapon. He requested the court for bail since the clause in the case was a bailable offence, therefore bail should be granted.

To this, the court accepted Baig’s bail appeal and asked him to submit Rs30,000 worth of surety bonds.

The Federal Investigation Agency on February 16 raided Baig's residence in Islamabad and arrested him after he was said to have shot at and roughed up members of the raiding team. The raid was conducted following a complaint lodged by Communications Minister Murad Saeed who claimed Baig "tarnished" his reputation during a TV show.

Baig faces two separate cases n the Islamabad High Court and the Anti-Terrorism Court.

The IHC on February 21 issued a show-cause notice to the director operations of the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing for "exceeding authority" during a raid at Baig's residence in Islamabad and asked him to submit his response. The petition, filed by Baig's wife in the IHC, seeks a quashing of the FIR against her husband.

Moreover, the ATC in Islamabad on February 23 sent Baig on a 14-day judicial remand to Adiala Jail in a case registered against him for allegedly attacking the FIA team that raided his house.
