Pakistan records significant decline in Covid deaths

Pakistan recorded significant decline in number of Covid-related fatalities with 29 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the National Command and Operation Centre data issued on Monday.

Last time, the country recorded under 30 deaths was on February 4 when 28 people died of the coronavirus.

The number of positive cases also dropped below 3,000 as 2,662 people tested positive of the virus during the last 24 hours, with 5.62% Covid positivity rate across the country.

Currently 1,566 people infected with the virus are on critical care.

According to the NCOC data, at least 92 million people have been fully vaccinated against the virus, while the country has administered at least 200 million doses of the virus.

The NCOC, a nerve centre of the country for the virus, is expected to meet tomorrow to review Covid situation across the country and will issue directions accordingly.

On January 19, the NCOC imposed non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in cities and districts with at least 10 per cent Covid positivity rate. These restrictions were later extended due to increasing cases of the virus.
