IHC receives Rana Shamim's original affidavit

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday received the original affidavit of former Chief Judge of Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim.

According to sources, the Registrar Islamabad High Court received the affidavit through a courier from London.

The Registrar, after receiving the affidavit, affixed another seal to the sealed envelope as the affidavit will be presented to the court in a sealed envelope at the next hearing where the envelope will be opened during the hearing next Monday, sources said.

Earlier in the day the IHC had adjourned the hearing on the above mentioned affidavit drafted by the former chief judge in which he had levelled serious allegations of judicial manipulation by former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

In its earlier order the IHC had directed Shamim to submit the original affidavit till today (Monday). His failure to comply would invite an indictment on contempt of court charges, the order added.

On December 1, the IHC had directed Shamim to submit by December 7 the original copy of an affidavit.

In the hearing on December 7, Shamim's counsel confirmed to the court that the content of the affidavit attributed to his client was indeed accurate.

According to the reports the counsel had also informed the court that the original affidavit was with Shamim's grandson, who was "underground" in the United Kingdom because he was being harassed.

Later that week, Shamim's name was placed on the Provincial National Identification List (PNIL), a 30-day temporary travel restriction introduced in 2018 as an alternative to the Exit Control List (ECL).
