PIA suspends flight operation from Kabul

Pakistan International Airlines on Saturday suspended special flight operation from Kabul due to insufficient facilities, according to sources in the airline.

So far the national carrier has evacuated hundreds of stranded people from Afghanistan which included journalists and staff of International Monetary Fund, World Bank and various embassies, according to a video message issued by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.

The development came at a time when flight operations from other international airlines were suspended as Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15.

Citing reasons of garbage on the runway, absence of cleaning staff, emigration and security check at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, sources said the PIA decided to suspend the special flight operation.

On Thursday, a PIA flight from Kabul carrying Pakistanis, foreign diplomatic staff and important officials of the global organizations reached Islamabad. The national carrier described the flight as the first international one following the Taliban move in Kabul.
