Court denies bail to Zahir Jaffer's parents

After reserving his judgment on the bail application of Zahir Jaffer's parents in the Noor Mukadam murder case, the judge in the Islamabad district and sessions court announced his decision to deny them bail.

Asmat and Zakir Jaffer, who each have their own lawyer, had applied for bail on the grounds that they had nothing to do with the murder for which their son has been charged.

Noor was beheaded in Islamabad in the Jaffer family home on July 20.

According to details from Wednesday's court proceedings,

On Wednesday, the detailed proceedings into the bail applications of the parents had taken place in court and the judge had reserved his judgment for Thursday.

During the hearing, the parents' lawyer said their clients were in Karachi when the murder took place and therefore did not have any connection to the incident nor could they have hidden any evidence, as they are being accused of.

However, Noor's lawyer says that telephone calls made between Zahir and his parents on the day of the murder point to the parents knowing of the incident and failed to call the police. The public prosecutor also said the CCTV footage recovered shows Noor trying to escape the house and the calls between the guard at the house and the parents show they were aware Noor was in their house.

The Twitter account Justice for Noor also released a link to the entire order from today.
