Afghan leadership needs to resolve their issues, says FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has asked Afghan leaders to sit together and resolve their internal issues. Qureshi made these remarks in a statement issued on Tuesday, reported local media.

"The parties involved will not gain anything from accusing each other," FM noted and added Pakistan is fully committed to long-lasting peace in the region.

Qureshi emphasized that Pakistan will not allow its land to be used against any other country.

Commenting on the role India has played in regional politics, FM said "Instead of being a spoiler, India should work for peace in the region."

Foreign Minister's comments came as the Afghan peace process has reached a crucial point.

Earlier on Monday, Addressing the inaugural session of the Pak-Afghan Bilateral Dialogue in Islamabad, the foreign minister said Pakistan will not take responsibility if it was blamed for any deterioration in the Afghan peace process.

Commenting on planned visit of President Ashraf Ghani and a core group Washington, FM said:

"I wish them luck and a good visit but let me spell it down in advance. If the objective of going to Washington is starting a new blame game and holding Pakistan responsible for all the ills [in Afghanistan] and the lack of [progress in the peace] process, then it will not help."
