India reports its highest-ever single-day tally of COVID-19 cases

The third surge of novel coronavirus infection is wreaking havoc all over the world but India has been hit hardest. In the last 24 hours, the second-most populated country in the world reported a record surge of Covid cases as over 1 lac Indians contracted the viral infection.

  • Yesterday's tally of 103,793 newly reported coronavirus cases proved to be the highest single-day figure in India's history of the ongoing pandemic yet. It was the first time that over 1 lac people tested positive for the flu bug in one day in India.

  • India's tally of 103,793 new cases was also the highest in the world in the last 24 hours.

  • Currently, India is the third worst-hit nation in the world with over 12.5 million documented cases of COVID-19 and is all set to overtake Brazil's second position on the list of most cases.

According to the statistics provided by the website, 'Worldometers', the latest COVID situation of India looks like this:

Total Cases: 12,587,920     New Cases (Last 24 hours): 103,793      Total Deaths: 165,132      New Deaths (Last 24 hours): 477    Total Recovered: 11,679,958     Active Cases: 742,830    Critical Cases: 8,944   

Among the states, Maharashtra was solely responsible for over half of the country's tally of new cases detected in the last 24 hours as 57,074 new cases were reported in the state. The state of Chhattisgarh with 5,250 new cases was the second worst-hit while the state of Karnataka with 4,553 newly reported coronavirus infections recorded the third-highest number of cases yesterday.
