Coronavirus cases in Islamabad surging

  • In the last 24 hours, 4,578 PCR tests for COVID-19 were done in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) out of which 221 returned positive.

  • ICT reported 2,255 cases in the past two weeks. 

The latest statistics provided by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), indicate that Pakistan is currently at the cusp of entering the third wave of Covid-19 as an increasing number of people are being detected across the country on daily basis for the past week or so. The capital is no exception, as it has seen several new cases in the last few days. The latest coronavirus situation of the ICT is as follows:

Total cases reported to date: 45,740    Number of cases reported in the last 24 hours: 221   Total deaths reported to date: 509   Number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours: 1   Coronavirus positivity rate in the last 24 hours: 4.8%  

Islamabad authorities are wary of the rising number of new cases being reported recently. Addressing this matter District Health Officer of Islamabad took to Twitter yesterday writing this:

We're closely watching COVID-19 trends in Islamabad, and doing the best we can. Sharing information is important, people should know and behave accordingly. Our teams are working 24/7 and Tracing. We are cognizant of our responsibilities, we stand between u and COVID-19. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) please.

In Islamabad, as of today, 30% of the ventilators are occupied and 31% of maximum oxygen beds (alternate oxygen providing facility other than ventilator, administered as per the medical requirement of COVID-19 patient) are also occupied.
