In a show of support for the fight against domestic abuse, Queen Camila, as the Patron of SafeLives, participated in a discussion with a group of young activists known as the SafeLives Changemakers.

The meeting took place at Buckingham Palace and aimed to address the challenges faced by young people and promote healthy relationships.

The SafeLives Changemakers, a collective of individuals aged 14 to 20, play a pivotal role in guiding the charity’s efforts to tackle issues affecting young individuals, particularly those related to domestic abuse. The group deliberately adopted their name to amplify the voices of those who are often overlooked or silenced when confronting significant societal problems.

SafeLives is a UK-based charitable organization committed to ending domestic abuse and violence. The organization recognizes children and young people as victims in their own right, with individuals between the ages of 13 and 17 experiencing alarmingly high rates of domestic abuse.

One of the primary objectives of the SafeLives Changemakers over the coming year is to ensure that the perspectives and experiences of children and young people are heard and integrated into the development and implementation of initiatives addressing domestic abuse. This includes giving a platform to the voices of young people from diverse and minority backgrounds, with the aim of creating a supportive environment where everyone can live free from abuse.

For many years, Queen Camila has been actively involved in championing the efforts of domestic abuse charities and shedding light on their invaluable work in supporting victims and survivors, both within the United Kingdom and internationally. By engaging in discussions with organizations like SafeLives, Her Majesty seeks to break the stigma surrounding this sensitive issue.

The meeting with the SafeLives Changemakers is just one example of the Queen’s ongoing commitment to addressing domestic abuse and ensuring the well-being of young people. The royal engagement underscores her dedication to making a positive impact and promoting awareness of this critical societal concern.
