Indian actor Aamir Khan has clarified that he “never endorsed any political party” after a fake video of him went viral on social media.

“We want to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career,” the Bollywood actor’s spokesperson said in a complaint to the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police.

“He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through election commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections.”

Reports say the video was AI generated from the time of ‘Satyameva Jayate’, a show he hosted almost a decade back. The development came a couple of days before the country heads to elections.

The spokesperson added that the actor’s team was “alarmed” by the viral video showing Aamir’s alleged association with a particular political party.

The video is fake and untrue, he said. “Mr Khan would like to urge all Indians to come out and vote and be an active part of our electoral process,” the note concluded.
