A United States official said on Tuesday that Pakistan should ‘carefully consider’ the gas pipeline project with Iran and that the project carries the risk of sanctions.

“We always advise everyone that doing business with Iran runs the risk of touching upon and coming in contact with our sanctions, and would advise everyone to consider that very carefully,” State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

“And as the assistant secretary made clear last week, we do not support this pipeline going forward,” he said.

However, Miller added that he would not ‘preview any potential sanction’ while addressing a press briefing.

Miller also condemned the attack on Chinese engineers in Shangla on Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and injuries sustained, and share our heartfelt condolences with those affected by the attack,” he added.

The matter of the letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court also came up in the press briefing. However, the spokeman did not comment in detail as he had not written in detail.
