Doctors in the United Arab Emirates reconstructed an Indian delivery rider’s face after a horrific accident, granting him a new life.

The delivery rider, Mohammad Thausif Kaiyoor, was struck from behind by a four-wheeler and was then taken for reconstruction surgery at Aster Hospital, Mankhool.

The rider had sustained severe injuries, such as fractures on his face and a deep wound on his thigh.

Thausif was returning after delivering medication in Sharjah’s Abu Shagara, and the accident transpired.

“I kept repeating to myself that I was alive and I had to stay conscious. Once the ambulance arrived, I blacked out because I felt I was going to be okay. You see, in the movies, once the ambulance arrives, the hero is saved,” Thausif stated, speaking to Khaleej Times over a video call.

After the accident, the man was hurried to the local hospital, where he spent six days after being transferred to Aster Hospital, Mankhool.

The hospital carried out their decision to restructure his face, and his wife from India was also brought in to give moral support during recovery.

“It was one of the worst facial injuries I have seen because the accident had crushed every facial bone of his,” a Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Aster Hospital, Mankhool, Dr. Renju Prem, said.

The doctor also concluded that Kaiyoor’s injuries were severe and could damaged the skull and brain intensely. A miracle occurred, for he was confident enough to perform the surgery with great confidence.

“It was a very complex surgery because of the extent of his injuries. I think the most challenging part was the upper one-third of his face because the bones around his eyes had shattered into pieces. It was almost like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. I wanted to make sure that his face was perfect functionally and cosmetically,” Dr. Prem said.

Thausif had severe headaches, nasal bleeding, difficulty opening and closing the mouth, restricted movement of the right eye, and double vision when he arrived at the hospital. According to Dr. Renju, these types of facial injuries are rare.

Thausif succeeded in eating solid food after two days of surgery and was discharged after 10 days.

Thausif was grateful to God and Dr. Renju, who did the job along with the medicines.

I have some bands in my mouth, which keep my teeth in place, and I have some double vision in one of my eyes. But otherwise, I am completely recovered and hoping to get back to work soon,“ he said.

Kaiyoor was given a new face that was unrecognizable; however, his life was saved.

Thausif mentioned that he is 80 percent recovered and is currently in India trying to regain full health
