Fire in foam shops on Karachi’s MA Jinnah road brought under control

Fire vehicles have been summoned from across the city to fight the fire

Authorities managed to control the fire that erupted in shops selling foam in Iqbal Plaza on Karachi’s MA Jinnah road after an hours-long effort on Tuesday.

Firetenders were summoned from across the city for to fight the fire, which authorities described as ‘third degree’.

Fire brigade officials said that the shops in the store foam which is inflammable and is causing the fire to spread quickly.

A total of seven shops were impacted by the fire with four of them only receiving partial damage. However, no loss of life was reported in the fire.

The rescuse operation has hampered by the thick smoke emerging from thr building. However, all people inside were successfully evacuated to safety.

It was revealed that the building was not quipped with with fire extinguishers and did not have emergency exits either.

While the cause of the fire has not been concluded with certainty, authorities say a short-circuit could be the possible reason.

KMC’s Chief Fire Officer Ishtiaq Ahmad confirmed that all residents of the building were evacuated and there was no loss of life.

He added that a fire safety audit was being carried out across the city but it has not reached MA Jinnah road yet.
