The newly-elected members of the Balochistan Assembly took oath on Wednesday, becoming the fourth provincial Assembly to do so after Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Zamrak Khan Achakzai was appointed the presiding officer for the session amid the absence of the Assembly Speaker. He administered oath to 58 newly-elected lawmakers.

The oath-taking came as heavy rainfall battered parts of the province with Gwadar taking the most of the brunt.

Houses were inundated as the authorities began a rescue operation to evacuate the families stuck in the submerged areas.

Earlier today, the newly elected members of the KP took oath days after Sindh and Punjab Assembly members were sworn in.

The first session of the newly elected Sindh Assembly convened on February 24 where Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani administered oath to 147 newly elected members of the assembly.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Murad Ali Shah was elected the chief minister of Sindh for the third consecutive term.

On February 23, the newly elected lawmakers of the Punjab Assembly took oath after the February 8 election.

In Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz became the first woman chief minister of Punjab amid a boycott by the PTI-SIC members.
