PTI intra-party elections: 4 people to contest for chairman slot

Barrister Gohar will run for chairman once again

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is gearing up to hold an intra-party election once again for which the process of filing nomination papers was completed on Sunday.

A total of four candidates are in the running for party’s chairman. Along with Barrister Gohar, the candidates include Ashraf Qureshi from Sindh, Muhammad Aslam from Balochistan and Naveed Anjum from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A 15-member panel has submitted its nomination papers under the leadership of Omar Ayub Khan, who will contest for the post of secretary general.

In Punjab, Yasmin Rashid, Muhammad Khan and Asad Hanif filed nomination papers.

Panels led by Haleem Adil and Khawand Bakhsh Ghulam are contesting for Sindh, while Munir Baloch will contest for the position of Balochistan’s president.

Meanhwile, a panel led by Ali Amin Gandapur has filed papers for elections in KP.

The party held its intra-party elections last year after being issued an ultimatum by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

However, the new elections saw all candidates being elected unopposed leading to the elections being struck down by the ECP. The Supreme Court later upheld the decision.

As a consequence, the party lost the right to use the bat symbol in the general elections.
