The PPP would approach the country’s top electoral authority and the courts against the suspension of mobile services in Pakistan on Election Day, the party chairman said on Thursday.

“Mobile phone services must be restored immediately across the country,” he said in a post on X.

The decision comes after the caretaker government decided to temporarily suspend the mobile phone services moments before the voting starts on Thursday.

“As a result of the recent incidents of terrorism in the country precious lives have been lost, security measures are essential to maintain the law and order situation and deal with possible threats, hence the temporary suspension of mobile services across the country,” the interior ministry said in a message on X.

NetBlocks, an independent observer, reported that live network data showed a disruption to mobile internet in Pakistan with a high impact on Zong.

Twin blasts rocked two cities in Balochistan on Wednesday, killing at least 29 people and injuring more than 38.

Earlier this week, caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz told reporters that the internet service would be suspended after receiving a request from any district or province.

But the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority clarified on Wednesday that the service would not be suspended.
