Met Office predicts rain, snowfall in parts of country from Jan 31 to Feb 4

Heavy rain may generate flash floods in Balochistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more heavy rain and snowfall in parts of the country from January 31 to February 4.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is affecting the country and may persist till February 4 while heavy rain may generate flash floods in Balochistan on February 2 and 3.

“Rain with isolated heavy falls (with snowfall over the hills) is expected in Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah on February 2 and 3,” the Met Office said.

Additionally, moderate to heavy rain-snowfall over the hills is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar till February 4.

In Kashmir’s Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur from Jan 31 to Feb 4 with occasional gaps.

The Met Office also forecasted moderate to heavy rain-snowfall over the hills in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan to Feb 4 with occasional gaps.

Similarly, rain with snow is expected in Murree and Galliyat till Feb 1 and on Feb 3 and 4 with occasional gaps.

Light to moderate rain is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Pothohar region, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sahiwal and Okara till Feb 4.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad and Kashmore on Feb 2 and 3, while cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in other parts of the province.
