A court Rawalpindi rejected on Thursday the plea that sought police custody of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and sent him to jail on 14-day judicial remand in a case linked to May 9 riots.

Qureshi was seen showing victory sign while being taken away by police after the court hearing. According to the PTI, he also shouted slogans in favour of Imran Khan.

While court hearing, the former foreign minister got emotional and claimed that he was physically and mentally tortured in prison last night.

He informed the duty magistrate that he wanted to record a statement. “I am arrested after an order and then the order is withdrawn,” Qureshi said as he raised his handcuffed hands. The former foreign minister was talking about the December 26 arrest orders which he claimed was changed to December 27.

The PTI leader stated it while recording his statement during a hearing on a police plea seeking the his three-day physical remand in a case pertaining to the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on May 9 at the Rawalpindi Judicial Complex. The court has reserved its verdict.

On Wednesday, a video went viral on social media that showed that Qureshi was being manhandled during his re-arrest.

A video shared by the PTI on social media showed policemen escorting a hand-cuffed Qureshi on Thursday.

At a moment in the hearing, he informed that the court that “A powerful man told him that he had no role in May 9 [events]. That person is the backbone of this whole system who said that you are not involved in May 9 [events].”

The PTI leader’s daughter Meher Bano Qureshi told reporters ahead of the hearing that it seems as if police were “presenting a terrorist.”

“No one is allowed to enter the Judicial Complex,” she said and expressed displeasure over the security outside the court.
