The 29th death anniversary of noted poetess Parveen Shakir is being observed on Tuesday.

Parveen Shakir started writing at a very young age. She wrote both prose and poetry, contributed columns in Urdu newspapers, and a few articles in English dailies.

She emerged as a trendsetter in the field of poetry transcending traditional societal barriers. She gave confidence to the poetesses of her era to come up with their own identities and also reflected the feelings of women through her poetry.

She was the winner of the Pride of Performance, for her outstanding contributions to literature.

Her popular poetry work includes Sad-barg, Khud Kalami, and Inkar which were compiled in the book Mah-e-Tamam.
