Kakar approves removal of Cheema from cabinet

Sends advice to president

Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has approved the removal of his adviser on establishment Ahad Cheema, following the Election Commission of Pakistan’s order.

Sources told Aaj News that the interim PM has sent advice related to the removal to the president.

On December 18, the country’s top electoral authority ordered Cheema should be removed from the post of adviser in the federal cabinet

In the short order, the ECP had said that the petitioner’s prayer for Cheema to be removed was “reasonable and is accepted” on the basis that the latter was a part of the previous government.

The caretaker cabinet has many ministers known for their association with the PML-N.

Cheema served as a bureaucrat in Punjab during Shehbaz Sharif’s rule as chief minsiter of Punjab. He had also been accused of corruption in two separate cases by the National Accountability Bureau – Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme and assets beyond means.

Moreover, the government has started taking action to remove the inspector general of police and deputy commissioner of Islamabad after the ECP orders. The PM Office has sought the names of officers from the Establishment Division to replace the DC and the IG. Secretary to the PM Khurram Agha has sent a letter to the Establishment secretary.
