Shaukat Siddiqui case: SC serves notice to former spymaster Faiz Hameed

Also sends notices to Brigadier (retd) Irfan Ramay, former IHC CJ Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi, and ex-SC registrar Arbab Muhammad Arif
Supreme Court issued Faiz Hameed notice - Breaking - Aaj News

The Supreme Court has served a notice to former spy chief retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid and sought responses from him on the allegations levelled against him.

The apex court issued the notice while conducting the live proceedings of a case against the dismissal of former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Siddiqui on Friday.

A five-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa was hearing the case. The other members of the bench are Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi.

It was the second day of the hearing that was being live telecast on YouTube and the SC’s website. On Thursday, CJP Isa said that there were good and bad people in all aspects of life as he mentioned that it has “become a fashion to malign institutions.”

Notices were also issued to Brigadier (retd) Irfan Ramay, former IHC chief justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi, and former SC registrar Arbab Muhammad Arif.

The aforesaid persons and the former spymaster were named in the petition filed by sacked IHC judge Siddiqui.

“Since serious allegations have been leveled against these persons we think it appropriate that they be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations leveled as it will not be appropriate to further proceed in the matter without considering the response and hearing them,” stated the order dictated by CJP Isa after the hearing.

The top court directed the petitioners to file amended titled to the petition with their irrespective addresses within one week, along with additional paper books. “The portions of the petitions should be marked wherein the allegations have been levelled against such persons to enable them to respond thereto.”

“Learned counsels seek one week time to comply with the order and to provide paper books upon receipt of the same office to issue notices to the said persons,” it said.

On October 11, 2018, President Arif Alvi removed Justice Siddiqui as a judge of the IHC after the Supreme Judicial Council recommended his removal. In reaction, Justice Siddiqui said the decision was “not unexpected” for him.

Two months before the removal, the SJC had served a show-cause notice to him on the reference for making unnecessary comments at the Rawalpindi District Bar Association by accusing the establishment of manipulating the judicial proceedings.
