Will Nawaz be able to go back to his old narrative?

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar says Nawaz should not use the same route for power

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Faisal Vawda said that Nwaz Sharif would not be able to revert to an anti-army narrative in the upcoming elections.

Speaking in Faisal Aap Ka on Wednesday, Vawda said that the SC decision was not only good but also ‘expected’. He added that it was already understood that people who attacked army insallations would be tried in military courts.

He added that the army had 95% credibility and should be given credit for all the good it was doing in the country.

Vawda added that those who had simply raised slogans could be tried in civil courts but those who had vandalises and set fire to buildings would have to be tried in military courts.

He said that all those involved in the APS attack were tried in military courts and sentenced to death. He added that only one person involved in the incident was tried in civil courts and was still alive.

He added that criticism on the army could be made but if someone did the ‘enemy’s work’ by attacking miliatry installations, they would have to be tried in the military court.

Vawda said that the army would not forgive the May 9 incident but even if it did, people would no longer let their children get martyred.

He added that eventually anyone who had gone against the army would have to face action including Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and Maulana Fazal ur Rehman.

Vawda said that Nawaz would run alone in an empty race but still end up at the fourth position. He said Nawaz was asking for trouble by going back on his old narrative.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the country’s justice system had become a farce. He said that courts give sermons in their decisions but end up revising them later and even admit they made mistakes.

He added that it seemed that the country would have to wait another 10 years to fix the mistakes being made today. He added that the system should ideally have enough strength to prevent anyone from manipulating it.

Khokhar said that the country would have to reach an agreement on the standard of fair trial it wanted to follow in the country. He added that the bench had suspended the decision without even issuing notices. He added that the detailed judgement of the original case has not even been issued yet.

He went on to say that judicial politics was affecting the country’s entire system and constitution and the responsibility lay with the judges of the Supreme Court.

He added that judges were not being paid massive salaries from taxpayer money just to be at loggerheads with each other.

Khokhar said that the way the military courts verdict was suspended was not correct.

He said that there was a precedent in the country of rule sbeing violated and there was no trust that the decision on military courts would not be abused later.

Vawda questioned that the Bhutto case was being dug up after 40 years but would there be accountability against people who wrote the judgement.

He added even symbolic punishments would carry little value and it would instead be better to focus on current issues.

Khokhar said that politicians to many things happening in the background but the oridinary person would lose trust in the judiciary after seeing how decisions were going in circles.

He added that if Nawaz wanted accountability for the past, the least he could do was not get power through the same route.

Khikhar said that if Nawaz was ‘helped’ into power, he would not be able to ask questions about what had happened in the past.

Vawda added that narratives, once they lose their power, cannot be resurrected. He said that if Nawaz tried to get back to his old narrative, he would not have legs to stand on.

He said that the speed with which Shehbaz Sharif ahd reversed Nawaz’s narrative had told people that it had been made of empty words.

Khokhar added that the burden of the 16-month government would not be undone by a narrative.
