In an attempt to entice users to sign up for its premium membership, Google-owned YouTube is introducing a new feature called Playables, which will allow users to play games directly on the platform.

According to media reports, users can play arcade games in the Playables section of the YouTube app or desktop website without having to download anything. Users will see the Home and Browse tabs when they navigate into Playables.

Popular titles such as Angry Birds Showdown, Brain Out, and Daily Solitaire are among the first games available on Playables. While the current library is small, more games are expected to be added in the future.

Playables is limited to a selected group of Premium subscribers and is presently in beta testing. However, the report also stated that YouTube intends to progressively increase Playables’ accessibility in the upcoming months.

YouTube plans to keep Playables available until March 28, 2024, at which time it will assess its performance and decide how to proceed.

According to YouTube, new generative AI features are being tested, allowing users to create music tracks with just a text prompt or a simple hummed tune. The company unveiled Dream Track, an experiment on YouTube Shorts driven by Lyria, the most sophisticated music generation model developed by Google DeepMind to date.
