Balochistan’s Caretaker Minister for Health Dr Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai has said that around 10 doctors were under treatment in Karachi for the Congo virus.

“The outbreak has been controlled. The government has placed a ban on slaughterhouses for two weeks in Quetta,” he told reporters during a news conference in Quetta Press Club on Tuesday.

Jogezai claimed that the Congo virus detection was routine in the province. However, he called it alarming that the medical professionals contracted it from a patient.

He said that the ward has been sealed, from where the virus spread, and will remain sealed for a week.

He said that Dr Shakr Ullah Khan’s life could have been saved if the Uthal Coast Guard had not stopped the ambulance for around three hours.

Due to the lack of an air ambulance, the congo infected doctor was moved to Karachi in an ambulance.

Amid deadly Congo virus outbreak in Balochistan, 12 patients including doctors and members of paramedical staff from Quetta, are being treated in a private hospital in Karachi.

According to the spokesman of the health department, three more affected people from Congo were transferred to Karachi and the condition of two members of the paramedical staff is said to be critical.

On the other hand, two more doctors were diagnosed with Congo-positive in Civil Hospital Quetta.

A ward created for Congo virus-affectees in Civil Hospital has been sealed and the movement of patients’ therapists has been restricted.

Dr. Arif from Quetta Civil Hospital informed all four patients have low platelets and more PCR tests of people will be carried out today.

According to the spokesman of the Health Department Balochistan, entry of patients’ attendants has been banned in the trauma centre.
