Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain said on Wednesday that Imran Khan had himself told him that he felt safe in jail. The judge also allowed Khan’s lawyers to meet him in jail.

Hearing petitions on Wednesday regarding permission for lawyers to meet Khan in jail, Judge Zulqurnain remarked that he had not denied a single meeting request placed before the court.

When Lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha complained that the lawyers were not being allowed a meeting, the judge remarked that it was an administrative matter and things had to be done as per the jail manual.

Panjutha also complained that the cypher case was being held in ‘secrecy’ to which the judge replied that the case had been registered under the Official Secrets Act.

The judge also dismissed the lawyer’s complaint over the Khan not being brought to the judicial complex on the pretext of ‘security’ saying that the former prime minister was an important personality and security arrangements had to be made.

Judge Zulqurnain also said that he had met Imran Khan in Attock jail for over an hour and the PTI chief had himself said that he felt safe in jail.

When Panjutha said that Khan’s jail cell was too small, the judge said that he had already ordered a wall to be demolished and could not order the whole cell to be broken down.

The judge then allowed Khan’s lawyers to meet him in jail.

The former prime minister has been formally charged in the cypher case under the Official Secrets Act which accuses him of illegally retaining and communicating a secret cypher, sent by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington.
