The Men’s 50-over World Cup began on Thursday at the world’s biggest stadium, however, many fans were “disappointed” with less number of crowd to watch the biggest cricket event in four years.

“Disappointed” and “Empty Stadium” were among the top trends on X, erstwhile Twitter, as many fans asked where was the crowd in the opening match of the event between England and New Zealand on Thursday.

The Black Caps beat the defending champions. Tom Latham’s side won by nine wickets as they chased 283 runs target within 37 overs.

Among the tweets, one of the old tweets of Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta was going viral, which apparently triggered the ‘disappointed’ word with cricket lovers.

He posted on September 30, “Disappointing to see Asia Cup opening in front of just a few hundred spectators in Multan. Very disappointing.”

In reaction, many people including former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also replied in response to the post.

The England’s Barmy Army also took a jibe at the hosts of the event.

English cricketer Danielle Wyatt asked where was the crowd.

One of the users blamed the Indian cricket board for such a visual experience.

This user reminded Gupta of his post about the Asia Cup.

Someone compared the match with the time when the two sides met at the final of the World Cup.
