PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has advised that the caretaker government should not become “chair-taker”, reiterating that the interim setup cannot form policies.

“We have no objection to the caretaker, but they should not become ‘chair-taker’. If they become chairtaker then we will have an objection,” he told reporters while responding to a query in Badin.

He was responding to a query pertaining to the government’s measures to control the economy.

Bilawal replied that his party and the people have no issues if the measures were being introduced to bring the prices of electricity and petrol down.

“I think the economic crisis which has so many issues that it would not be resolved soon and if a solution is to be taken out then only elected representatives can bring out solutions to these problems,” Bilawal said.

When asked, Bilawal advised the reporter to question PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on his statement pertaining to the Election Commission of Pakistan to seek his understanding of the statement.

Earlier, a statement from Zardari said that the Election Commission of Pakistan was obligated to conduct the delimitation of constituencies following the census results.

But he shared what happened in the central executive committee meeting of the PPP which was presided over by him and Zardari. According to Bilawal, all legal experts of the party were of the view that elections should be held within 90 days.

“I am bound to [follow] President Zardari on our family matters but as far as political matters, Constitution and party policy are concerned, I’m bound to [follow] my workers’ and my party’s central executive committee’s decisions,” Bilawal clarified.

In the last meeting of the CEC, he added, the party decided to reach out to the polls overseer. A delegation of PPP met with the ECP last month and put forward its reservations while the commission shared its views.

“Now I am on my way to Lahore. When we will reach Lahore hopefully, another central executive meeting of the PPP will be held. If anyone has any other view he can present to us,” he said.
