Several villages in the Pakpattan district of Punjab were flooded on Monday as the water level rose in the Sutlej river, prompting people to spend the night in the open air.

The deluge triggered by heavy rains has broken the land route of villages to the main cities.

Meanwhile, a video went viral on social media showing that a funeral procession passed through floodwater in Kot Bahawal of Bahawalnagar.

The affected people of Shaho Baloch village of Pakpattan were seen using old fencing techniques to divert the flow of water.

More than 24,000 villagers and 16,000 cattle have been rescued from the flood affected areas, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority. Relief camps have been set up in Okara, Vahari, and Bahawalpur.

The Punjab government has decided to close 17 schools located in the premises of Pakpatan as floodwater has entered many buildings in the area.

Chachran Sharif

Floodwater would flow through Chachran Sharif in Punjab, the government said and warned that it would cause flooding in low-lying areas.

Khanpur Assistant Commissioner Shabbir Dogar in a statement said that they have completed all arrangements. Thoroughfares have been cleared and the villages located in the area have been evacuated.

The government has also issued an alert to rescue services and departments concerned in Chachran Sharif.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army has distributed ration in the areas of Kamal Pur, Tehti Bakhshi and Shajra.
