Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar from Balochistan has been appointed as the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. Aaj News reported a day earlier that the ruling coalition had developed a consensus to pick someone from Balochistan as the caretaker prime minister. This is exactly what has happened.

The appointment will likely shape Balochistan’s next government and political situation in the province after the general elections.

Kakar co-founded the Balochistan Awami Party in 2018. This group later came to be known by its acronym of BAP. In 2018, the province underwent a major political change and BAP emerged as the ruling party.

Aaj News reported at the end of July that several members of the BAP are planning to join the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and that the PMLN will form the next government in the province.

Anwaarul Haq Kakar is currently not associated with any political party and will not join anyone when he serves as the caretaker prime minister, says Aaj News Quetta Bureau Chief Mujeeb Ahmed.

But BAP politicians are still working on the plan to join the PMLN and Kakar may play a pivotal role.

Kakar is from Balochistan’s Pashtun tribes and is known for his presence in Islambabad’s power corridors, says Shaukat Piracha of Aaj News.

He has always defended Pakistan’s territorial integrity, he said.

Kakar is among the politicians who are well-versed in Pakistan’s security challenges.

He understands the situation in Afghanistan and Iran and Balochistan’s insurgency, says Mujeeb Ahmed.

Kakar would be the eighth interim prime minister of the country. He was born in the Muslim Bagh area of Quetta in 1971. He completed his early education at St Francis High School in Quetta.

The BAP senator went abroad after his father’s demise. Upon his return, he joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Ahmed said that the newly-appointed interim PM was among those who first spoke against separatists and anti-state elements. He played a crucial role after 2016 and uncovering foreign agendas. He also played a role in bringing local terrorists into the mainstream.

Kakar also served as an adviser to the Balochistan CM and provincial government spokesperson in the past.

Ahmed confirmed that Kakar has got protocol after the president signed the summary. Aaj News Bureau Chief Islamabad Tariq Chaudhry said that it was expected that he would take oath on Saturday night and form a cabinet today after discussion.

Oath-taking ceremony to be held on August 14 at President’s House

Sources said that the oath-taking ceremony will take place at the President’s House on August 14 at 3 pm.

They went on to add that the invitations for the ceremony have been sent to PM Shehbaz, the Senate’s chairman, the National Assembly speaker, the Chief Justice of Pakistan and all chiefs of armed forces.

Additionally, the governors of all four provinces will also also be invited to the oath-taking ceremony.
