The Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected a petition on Friday against caretaker chief minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi’s plan, which includes making Rs400 million worth of national flag, to celebrate Independence Day on Friday (today).

Naqvi shared his plan of celebrations in a cabinet meeting which reviewed the arrangements for the national day celebration.

The plan includes the installation of the biggest Pakistani flag at the Liberty Chowk, Lahore. Not even a single penny of government would be spent on the creation of a huge flag, according to the interim chief minister.

The petition was filed by Aamir Sohail. He urged the court to forestall the preparation of the flag. He alleged that at that time when poor people were attempting suicide, the government was spending millions of rupees on a flag instead of providing relief to citizens.

In the previous hearing, the court had granted time to the prosecutor for submission of the reply.

Cabinet meeting

Officials during a meeting on Friday briefed Interim Punjab CM Naqvi that preparations for the Independent Day have been completed. The flag hoisting will happen simultaneously in the entire Punjab under the plan.

The government also planned fireworks within the premises of Minar-e-Pakistan at 12:00am on August 13.

“Pakistan is the reward of numerous sacrifices of our elders. Muslims crossed the sea of fire and blood for freedom and independent nations celebrate their freedom with excitement,” said Naqvi.
