Interim Punjab chief minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice on Thursday of former world snooker champion Ahsan Ramzan’s arrest and sought a report from the Lahore CCPO.

“Maltreatment of a snooker champion is not acceptable under any circumstances,” Naqvi said in a statement and ordered an investigation into the incident. He called for bringing facts to light and arresting the people responsible for it.

Ramzan was taken into custody by the Green Town police after they raided a club for keeping it open late. The former snooker champion was practicing for the national championship.

A picture of Ramzan wearing a belt outside the jail was out on social media. He was kept in jail for 15 minutes.

“Policemen kept abusing me and kept me in jail. I told them that I am a world champion,” he said while speaking about his detention. He lamented that he would be rewarded in such a way for his achievement to earn a good name for the country.

“Little did I know that I would be humiliated in my own country,” he said.

While speaking on the treatment meted out to him, Ramzan said that his fears today proved right that the police can do whatever they can in Pakistan.

He was released after one of his friends came to the police station.

Ramzan had demanded an inquiry into the incident from the prime minister and the interim Punjab chief minister.
