The ‘grave negligence’ of Islamabad’s private hospital staff cost a newborn girl both her legs after suffering severe burns in the incubator on Tuesday.

According to the father Syed Ahsan, the newborn baby was put in the incubator of Dr Shakeela Shabir Hospital in the Taramri area of Islamabad, as she was a premature baby. But due to negligence of the hospital staff the child lost both of her legs as she suffered severe burns in the incubator, he added.

“My daughter was born premature, due to which she was placed in an incubator at the hospital. When we came after a day to check up on her, her feet were burned. The hospital staff tried to cover the wounds by calling it an allergy and placed bandages on them,” Ahsan said.

He said that the family has admitted the baby to the Department of Burn Care Centre of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad.

The spokesperson for the PIMS hospital said that the newborn has been taken care of after admission at the hospital.

“Around 30% of her lower body has been burned. The staff is doing everything possible to give the best treatment to the newborn,” he added.
