The federal government has reduced the price of edible oil by Rs93 and ghee by Rs68 per kilogram.

The price cut applies to various brands of ghee and cooking oil being sold at the utility stores operated by the Utility Stores Corporation across the country.

The government issued a notification to announce the new prices, which the notification said, have taken effect from Wednesday, May 31.

According to the notification, the edible oil price has been reduced by Rs93 per liter at the utility stores, while the price of ghee has been reduced by Rs68 per kg.

This is the second price cut introduced at government-run utility stores within a week. On May 25, the edible oil price was reduced by Rs76 and ghee by Rs69.

Prices of edible oil and ghee shot up last year on account of international commodity price hikes, rising demand, and inflation. However, the world market has seen a price adjustment since then but prices remain high in Pakistan due to rupee devaluation.
