The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has nullified the 3MPOs (Maintenance of Public Order) that were imposed by deputy commissioners across the province.

Following the completion of arguments yesterday, the court reserved its decision and finally announced the verdict on Wednesday.

A two-member bench, consisting of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Arshad Ali, deemed it necessary to quash the orders imposed by deputy commissioners regarding the 3-MPOs.

This ruling brings a momentous relief to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers as the PHC has also ordered the release of the arrested individuals who were held under the 3MPOs.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Hamid Sajjad, approximately 2,000 people were arrested under these orders.

The protests that took place in the provincial metropolis on May 9 resulted in the unfortunate loss of four lives and injuries to 27 individuals, as confirmed by the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

Furthermore, the situation escalated as hundreds of violent protesters separately attacked and set fire to the Radio Pakistan Peshawar building. The spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital confirmed this distressing incident to the media.

The assailants forcefully broke down the gate of the Radio Pakistan building and proceeded to cause havoc within the newsroom and various other sections of the radio station.

This attack on the radio station was not an isolated incident, as similar violence had occurred the day before, with the protesters once again targeting the Radio Pakistan building.

In light of these events, the PHC’s decision to nullify the imposed orders and release the arrested individuals brings a sense of resolution to an otherwise tumultuous situation.
