Metro bus services suspended in several cities following protests

Bus services in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi will remain suspended on Wednesday following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The public is facing difficulty commuting due to the suspension of metro bus services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Services were suspended yesterday (Tuesday) after Shamshabad, 6th Road, and Faizabad metro stations were vandalized by angry protesters.

Karachi’s People’s Bus Service resumes operation

On Wednesday morning, it was reported the People’s Bus Service in Karachi will remain suspended after a mob damaged four vehicles during protests on Tuesday.

However, People’s Bus Service resumed operations on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Green Line and Orange Line BRTs operated routinely on Wednesday morning but suspended operations on Wednesday afternoon citing security concerns.

Electric and Pink bus services have also been suspended.

Violent protesters damaged two PBS buses at Sharea Faisal, one at Nagan Chowrangi, and one at Shah Faisal Colony on Tuesday. A mob torched a bus and broke the windows of another during violent protests at Sharea Faisal.

The administration said that the vehicles of the People’s Bus Service were severely damaged, and the bus staff was also abused by the protesters.

The cost of a vehicle of People’s Bus Service is Rs 80 million.

Police sources said that two public buses, a people’s bus a police prisoner transport van, two water tankers, and dozens of motorcycles were torched in the city.

They added that one superintendent, one deputy superintendent, and more than 10 police personnel were injured during violent protests yesterday.

Police are conducting raids against protesters in different parts of the city,
