PTI Chairman Imran Khan told his supporters on Sunday that he will give the call for protests across the country if the Supreme Court decision regarding elections in Punjab is not followed.

Speaking to supporters who gathered at his Zaman Park in Lahore to give him greetings on the Second Day of Eid, Khan claimed that elections in the country were the only solution to the crises that Pakistan is facing.

He claimed that the elections would be held on May 14, a date set by the Supreme Court in its April 4 decision. He told the party workers to begin campaigning for the elections with the date in mind.

The PTI chief said that to take Pakistan out of the “current mess”, the first step would have to be to establish the rule of law in the country.

“Today even a Supreme Court verdict is not being implemented,” he said and added that the rule of law could only be established by a government that comes into power on the basis of the power of the people.

“A society is free when the people get rights,” Khan said, adding that he wanted to bring a system of justice into the country where the weak and the strong were equal before the law.

He alleged that he was “powerless” in the tenure of his government as all the powers were “exercised” by former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. But the ex-COAS did not believe corruption was a bad thing and supported those “who” wanted an NRO, the PTI chief said.

“The former army chief [Bajwa] did not allow him to establish justice in the country,” he said, “Once the rule of law is established in Pakistan, expatriated will be willing to invest in the country which would finally secure the country’s independence from international lenders.”
