Rana Sanaullah hints at postponement of elections

Says the decision would be made under the law and the constitution

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah believes elections could be postponed once again if political and economic uncertainty continues in Pakistan.

The PMLN lawmaker made these comments while speaking exclusively in Munizae Jahangir’s show Spot Light on Wednesday.

He said that the PDM government was ready to announce the election date before May 21 after meetings in London. “This was a very blunt decision of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.”

However, Sanaullah said that then he [Imran Khan] called for a nationwide protest. After this, the PDM leadership revoked its decision to announce the election date. “Imran Khan is responsible for this decision.”

“Of course, this situation can arise,” he said hinting that PDM could play hardball. “The election he [Imran Khan] wants is not the requirement of the Constitution but it is the requirement of his stubbornness and temptation.”

When asked about under which article or law the election would be delayed? The Interior Minister replied that the decision would be made under the law and the constitution of Pakistan depending on the situation.

“Under which law the elections were delayed when Benazir Bhutto was martyred in 2007,” Sanaullah asked. “If they can be delayed for a month then, they could have been delayed for three months?”

The PMLN lawmaker said that even if such elections are held, what is the use, it will only push the country towards chaos and anarchy, “And perhaps this is the purpose and purpose of this man [Imran Khan], he wants anarchy in the country, he wants chaos.”

“We won’t be in the government after August 16, a caretaker setup would replace us,” he added. “The people will minus this temptation with the power of their vote.”
