There were about 47 million Facebook users in Pakistan, according to old data from January 2021 provided by Statista. Even if these numbers have changed, it still could be that we are one of the largest user bases in the world. And imagine what kind of power could be unlocked if Meta opened up monetisation for Pakistan?

According to a press release issued Wednesday, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Minister of State and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Public Communication and Digital Platforms, Fahd Haroon, talked about how digital platforms can create economic diplomacy and investment opportunities for Pakistan.

Bilawal met Meta in December 2022 in Singapore, making him the first official from Pakistan to do so. He appreciated the international technology company for enabling monetization on their platforms for Pakistani content creators on Meta.

On Wednesday, Fahd Haroon appraised Bilawal on his recent meetings with big tech, including Google, Meta, TikTok.

International institutions have identified that Pakistan can unlock its Rs9.7 trillion digital potential by 2030, which includes opportunities with digital platforms.

According to the World Bank, Pakistan has a population of over 232 million people, with a majority of it below the age of 30. All these people will need jobs.
