Pakistan Television (PTV) has reportedly removed Director of Sports and Syndication Dr. Nauman Niaz after what appears to be failing to secure FIFA World Cup 2022 rights deal.
Though there is not an official statement from the PTV yet as an inquiry is underway.
Social media users believe that he is “being victimized and ousted for being honest”.
Some users claimed that he was punished for standing up against bias and injustice.
Many others questioned when the managing directors and the board of directors are responsible for such decisions, and why he was held responsible for the aforementioned issue.
Some of them said why he is the only one held responsible for failing to secure the rights deal.
Recently, Dr. Nauman Niaz was the centre of attention after a verbal spat with Pakistan legend Shoaib Akhtar. The duo was taken off air after a heated exchange during a live telecast on PTV Sport.
Later, then Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry invited Akhtar and Niaz to his residence and helped the pair settle their differences. Following the settlement of the days-long dispute, Niaz publicly apologised to Akhtar in a video.
