Punjab Governor Baligh ur Rehman has challenged the Lahore High Court’s decision regarding setting an election date in the province.

The governor will be represented by Shehzad Shaukat and will seek a detailed interpretation of the court verdict issued last Friday.

Justice Jawad Hassan had ordered the Election Commission to fix an election date in the province in consultation of the province. The court had held that the election must be held in 90 days.

Punjab Assembly was dissolved on January 14. However, the date for elections have still not been set despite consultations between the ECP and the governor.

The governor has maintained that he cannot be the one to give the date for the elections because he did not dissolve the assembly.

He has also told the ECP that it should ‘consult’ security and intelligence agencies to see whether the security situation in the country could allow for elections to take place.
